Methodology

How we research where and what to eat.

Our Editorial Philosophy

A good meal choice depends on your budget, the season and what you want to try. We compare options using cited sources, then explain the trade-offs.

How We Choose Places

Recommendations consider these criteria and explain their limits:

  1. 1

    Local food

Favour places that serve the city's or region's own dishes and produce.

  2. 2

    Budget range

Cover different budgets, from bakeries and markets to fine dining.

  3. 3

    Season and opening

Note seasonal closures and booking needs where sources state them.

  4. 4

    Evidence

Cite factual claims and identify unsupported or uncertain details.

What We Don't Rank By

Understanding what we explicitly exclude matters for trust.

  • ✗Affiliate commission rates
  • ✗Paid placement
  • ✗Invented meals or visits
  • ✗Unverified guarantees

Where Our Data Comes From

Our recommendations synthesise multiple signal types. We prioritise signals in this order:

  1. 1. Restaurants, markets and producers

Official menus, opening details and descriptions

  2. 2. Tourist boards and guides

Croatian tourist boards and recognised restaurant guides

  3. 3. Attributed reporting

Published food reporting with an identifiable source and date

Handling Uncertainty

When a source doesn't confirm a detail, the guide says so and points you to the restaurant or operator page to check. We'd rather be clear about what is published than guess.
